All hockey programs conducted by the Columbus Blue Jackets are under the guidance of the Fan Development Department.

The mission of the Columbus Blue Jackets Fan Development Department is to give back to the community through various programming and events that introduce and teach the fundamentals of hockey to people of all ages in a safe and professional environment.

The Columbus Blue Jackets "Junior Jackets" program is dedicated to developing interest and participation in ice hockey throughout central Ohio. Our professional instructors are committed to providing Ohio's premier initiation program in a fun, safe and positive environment. It is the goal of the program to prepare participants for play in a more structured youth hockey association in the future.

There are six total sessions: four eight week sessions offered in the fall and winter, one eight week session offered in the spring and a four week session in the summer. The sessions combine for a total of 44 weeks offered during the year at Chiller Dublin, Chiller Easton, Chiller North and the Ice Haus.

The Columbus Blue Jackets Hockey School has been designed to provide the highest quality training and instruction to its participants. Done in a camp curriculum atmosphere, the sessions offer players of every age and skill level the best value and experience in a positive learning environment.

The camps take place at Chiller North and will feature appearances from Blue Jackets players and members of the Blue Jackets coaching staff. Off ice training will also include the skating treadmill and Rapidshot.

The Ohio AAA Blue Jackets program was formed to create, develop and maintain an elite hockey program in Ohio focused on player development that provides the training and environment for players to fully develop and enhance their skills.

This program also aims to provide the elite player with the support necessary to grow and succeed as a student-athlete and also assist and promote player advancement to the junior and collegiate levels.

The program currently fields teams at the Major Midget (18-under), Minor Midget (16-under), Major Bantam, Minor Bantam, Major Pee Wee and Minor Pee Wee levels.

Ohio Sled Hockey is a 501 (c) (3) not for profit organization. One hundred percent of the dollars raised for their annual operating budget goes directly to the program and its participants. Monies raised are used for equipment, scholarships for participating athletes, travel, and ice time.

This program is the only competitive junior team sport providing league and tournament play for kids with physical disabilities in Columbus, Ohio and quite possibly the state. Kids with physical disabilities are minorities within the already minority population of kids with disabilities. Children with spina bifida, paralysis, cerebral palsy, and muscular dystrophy are typical of those served by this sport. For more information on Ohio Sled Hockey, please click here

Street Jackets, a member of the NHL Street Program, is a grass-roots street hockey program that allows kids to learn the basic skills of hockey on the playgrounds or in the gymnasiums of community based facilities through the donation of equipment, training sessions and manuals. There is no cost to the facilities for this program and all that kids need to participate is a pair of sneakers. The Blue Jackets further support this program with clinics and a championship tournament at the end of the year.

Beginner Clinics:
Free Hockey Clinics with the Columbus Blue Jackets Fan Development Department provide beginners age six and up an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of playing hockey in a fun and safe environment with professional coaches and all necessary equipment provided. Clinics are offered at various times throughout the year.

Team or Program Clinics:
Clinics provided by the Columbus Blue Jackets Fan Development Staff will provide youth/adult street, in-line and ice players of all levels an opportunity to advance their skills. From basic clinics with new teams to advanced team clinics where in-depth concepts are discussed, the clinics will cater to all skill levels. Hockey is for Everyone provides support and unique programming to non-profit youth hockey organizations across North America that are committed to offering children of all backgrounds opportunities to play hockey. The initiative is supported by NHL member clubs, players, NHL alumni, and fans. To date Hockey is for Everyone has exposed close to 45,000 boys and girls to unique hockey experiences.

The Columbus Ice Hockey Club, a member of the NHL’s Hockey is for Everyone program, is supported by and run with the cooperation of the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department. The program continues to be extremely popular with over 100 participants who utilize the ice time and equipment provided. The program is under the supervision of John Haferman, Program Director.
