Each year, the Columbus Blue Jackets and OhioHealth team up with the American Red Cross during September to make a goal to help save lives. “Hockey: It’s in Your Blood!” is a month-long partnership to recruit blood donors. Last September, the campaign brought in more than 19,000 pints of donated blood in Central Ohio, supporting patients at 42 area hospitals.

When you come to donate blood in Central Ohio during September, you can register for a number of icy-cool prizes including:
  • Weekly drawings for Columbus Blue Jackets Prize Packs, which include two free game tickets and autographed team memorabilia!
  • A ride on the Zamboni® ice resurfacing machine at a hockey game!

To celebrate the Hockey: It's In Your Blood month-long campaign each September, the Blue Jackets host a blood drive at Nationwide Arena on Thursday, September 12 where all donors received a voucher for a free ticket with the purchase of another ticket to a select Blue Jackets home game in the 2013-14 season.

The need for blood is constant. Trauma victims, cancer patients, premature babies and children who suffer from sickle cell disease often need blood products to survive every day here in our own community. Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood. In Central Ohio alone, the Red Cross needs an average of 800 donors each day to support patients at area hospitals.
