A McSurplus of solid goaltending

Already without the services of Sergei Bobrovsky, the Blue Jackets received a goaltending scare late in the first period of last night's game when Curtis McElhinney aggravated a lower body injury and had to depart. In stepped Mike McKenna, the 30-year-old veteran called up last week to serve as backup goaltender while McElhinney assumed the No. 1 job. You'd never know McKenna hadn't played an NHL game since 2010, either; the reigning AHL Goaltender of the Month made 17-of-18 saves in relief and helped the Blue Jackets to their fourth win in five games.
